In­goma e.tv (DStv chan­nel 194) Sun­day, 6.30pm Free-to-air chan­nel e.tv is fill­ing its air­waves with a se­ries of lo­cal doc­u­men­taries, each set in a dif­fer­ent South African re­gion.

A new prov­ince will be put un­der the spot­light ev­ery week, with unique sto­ries emerg­ing from North West, Lim­popo, KwaZulu-Na­tal, Mpumalanga and the East­ern Cape.

Group head of chan­nels Monde Twala says: “It’s im­por­tant that we con­tinue to doc­u­ment South African cul­ture and trends. This is part of our on­go­ing ef­fort to en­sure that his­tory and legacy are trans­ferred across gen­er­a­tions.”

From two young men in Lim­popo who started their own hip-hop ra­dio sta­tion, VenRap, to a look at young Nde­bele women un­der­go­ing ukuthomba (ini­ti­a­tion into wom­an­hood), the se­ries presents view­ers with a di­ver­sity of cul­ture.

The first episode, In­goma, ex­am­ines the prepa­ra­tions ahead of an in­dige­nous mu­sic cel­e­bra­tion. – Grethe Koen
