Ingoma e.tv (DStv channel 194) Sunday, 6.30pm Free-to-air channel e.tv is filling its airwaves with a series of local documentaries, each set in a different South African region.
A new province will be put under the spotlight every week, with unique stories emerging from North West, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape.
Group head of channels Monde Twala says: “It’s important that we continue to document South African culture and trends. This is part of our ongoing effort to ensure that history and legacy are transferred across generations.”
From two young men in Limpopo who started their own hip-hop radio station, VenRap, to a look at young Ndebele women undergoing ukuthomba (initiation into womanhood), the series presents viewers with a diversity of culture.
The first episode, Ingoma, examines the preparations ahead of an indigenous music celebration. – Grethe Koen
