Ayanda’s fashion dud
There’s always a segment in lifestyle shows like Top Billing that takes us on a trip to meet a fashion guru like Gert-Johan Coetzee to have a chat about their career and the industry.
Now, the fashion gods over at ED are serving up a 30minute show much like those beloved segments.
The 13-part series titled Ayanda’s Fashion House premiered on January 18 and follows emerging designer Ayanda Nhlapo as she meets guests who are trying to break into specific parts of the fashion world.
The show feels original, features a stellar panel of the industry’s usual suspects (including Dion Chang and Trevor Stuurman), and is certainly not based on the look and feel of streetculture magazines like The Lake and all those other general fashion Tumblr pages.
However, there is way too much talking (in the form of dozens of boring questions from Nhlapo) and not enough eye candy to keep one interested. Viewers only catch small glimpses of the clothes that are being spoken about.
This means that the show ends up feeling like nothing more than a fashion career portal programme.
It could do with a little more pizzazz. – Thembisile Dzonzi
