Brenda Fassie, Not a Bad Girl ShowMax BRENDA FASSIE ShowMax is awesome in terms of local content, boasting a roster of nostalgic classics such as Sarafina and current favourites such as Isibaya.

But our streaming pick for this week has got to be the 1997 documentary Brenda Fassie, Not a Bad Girl. Filmed by Chris become part of a celebrity coach’s team. They are mentored and guided, and then compete to win votes from the public.

We’re a bit sceptical about the coach selection, which is majority white and Afrikaans – rocker Karen Zoid, Kahn Morbee from The Parlotones, singer/model/actress Lira and pop singer Bobby van Jaarsveld. Why only one black coach? We hope the show can produce a breakout star, something the US version has not managed to do. – Grethe Koen

OF THE Austin, it “reveals intimate details of her life, both on and off the stage”.

The beloved but troubled Fassie is revealed, flaws and all, and we gain insight into a South African legend who was far ahead of her time. Make a date with your laptop. – Grethe Koen ShowMax is available for R99

a month, excluding internet data charges
