John Kani Theatre at The Market, Joburg Tickets R90 to R140 at computicket.com Runs till February 28 African-American playwright Lorraine Hansberry – who apparently inspired Nina Simone’s To Be Young, Gifted And Black – is getting the South African treatment.

Her much-lauded work A Raisin in the Sun, which was the first play by a black woman to be performed on Broadway, will be staged at The Market theatre under the directorship of James Ngcobo.

It’s a look into the life of a black family in the US – and a play that will leave audiences questioning whether socioeconomic conditions for African-Americans have really changed.

This work, by courtesy of the US and SA embassies, is sure to make for a memorable evening out.
