Working out just keeps getting more fashionable and the new kid on the block, Runbase in Braamfontein, intends to inspire a whole new culture of keeping fit. Situated in the heart of Braamfontein, Runbase is close to the popular Neighbourgoods Market.

On a warm Tuesday night this week, sportswear brand Adidas gathered an exclusive crowd of urban runners, and their enviable bodies, who would test the sports brand’s new Pure Boost runningshoe range on a 3km run around the city. The trendy design by Stella McCartney definitely makes a statement with a mixture of purple and pink, and a touch of floral on the laces.

Adidas director of running for emerging markets Kate Woods said on the night: “Runbase is a home of energy running and is intended to create a national movement of runners. It’s a space where friends can come and hang out together, not only to run – it’s a space where they’ll be able to do some yoga and stretching classes. It’s really a space where we can all connect with each other and create energy running.”

After putting the fancy footwear to the test, the well-stocked kitchen supplied some unlimited crafty bites for the night, along with a generous supply of delicious cocktails. One of the supertoned guests included Amanda du-Pont, who was spotted with her fitness trainer, Mapule Ndhlovu.

“It’s beautiful to see that we’re finally getting to a space where we can all work out. It’s beautiful to see that we are starting to not only look afterer our bodies, but that it’s becomingng fun to exercise and to look afterr our health,” she said.

“A couple of years ago, it was not a thing among people of colour to be health conscious, and fitness was not important. It’s nice to see thathat we are becoming more aware off our bodies.”

Some of the other famous faces at the launch included Afternoon Express and Top Billing presenter Jeannie D, and musician Nandi Mngoma. The Stella McCartney range will

be available in Adidas retail tail stores from February 12. Runbase will open in Cape Town at the V&A Waterfrontnt in March.

The shoes in the he collection cost between R449 and R2 500
