Mandela had a way of making friends of enemies and creating stakeholders out of adversaries. He did this by listening to others, believing the best of others, and leading both from behind and from the front. He understood that he was the product of an unfortunate history, but he believed that he could transcend it. We are all products of that unfortunate history, but we don’t have to be bound by it.
