Safer In­ter­net Day was recog­nised glob­ally last week, and the folks at Google SA of­fered this ad­vice: in­vest in an­tivirus soft­ware; al­ways turn on “safe brows­ing” in your browser; up­date your pass­words of­ten, and make sure they are com­pli­cated and dif­fer­ent for each pro­gram; avoid phish­ing scams by watch­ing out for un­so­licited emails that ask for your per­sonal in­for­ma­tion; al­ways down­load your up­dates – many of th­ese build in new se­cu­rity up­grades; and al­ways be care­ful when you’re us­ing Wi-Fi for things like bank­ing, which re­quire se­ri­ous se­cu­rity. In fact, try not to use Wi-Fi for bank­ing at all.
