SABC3 Expresso Morning Show resident chef Zola Nene has a new book, titled Simply Delicious. It shows us just how easy it is to make any recipe, even one that looks as fancy as her delicious blueberry cheesecake.
“Baked cheesecake is everything,” she told #Trending this week. “You cannot be making cheesecake and putting it in the fridge – for me, that’s simply fridge tart. Simply Delicious is my food journey. Each recipe has a story to it. I have a passion for cooking and I hope each recipe translates into that.”
Full of love for her work, Nene says: “My culinary journey started with my mother’s cooking and has developed as I have travelled around the world. My palate learnt to become more keen to try different foods. I enrolled at a culinary school in Stellenbosch and that is where I began my career as a chef.” It was during her third year at cooking school that Nene knew she wanted to work in food media. In the same year, Expresso was being conceptualised and in need of a food expert.
“You have to become curious about how food is made ... You’d be surprised how I can’t stand the smell or even the taste of bananas,” the bubbly chef tells me as we chat.
Of the recipe republished on this page, Nene says: “I was never very fond of cheesecake until I sampled a baked cheesecake for the first time. It might take a while to bake, but all good things come to those who wait – and a bite of this cheesecake is definitely worth waiting for.”
