Luxury fashion designer Christian Louboutin has unveiled his latest collaboration with his friend Valérie Schlumberger and the women of La Maison Rose – a charity that works with and assists vulnerable women and children in Senegal by developing their creative and crafting skills. The result of the collaboration is the Africaba Tote Bag, which is a gorgeously bright day bag that celebrates the vibrant colours of Senegal and its west African flair. Louboutin announced the bags on his Instagram account, where he captioned one of the posts: “Our latest collaboration is a story of friendship, creativity and reinvention...”
Louboutin says the bags are unique, not being mass-produced, unlike their other products. Instead, the women of La Maison Rose decided what each bag would look like so that no two bags would be the same. The French designer has also been quoted as saying “the charm is in the idiosyncrasies and slight differences that emerge when you are working with people who make things by hand”.
Ten percent of proceeds from this exclusive line will go to support La Maison Rose, but being Christian Louboutin means that the bags don’t come cheap, each one costing $1 250 (R18 000). Shop for the Africaba on christianlouboutin.com
