BONANG rocks NIGERIA
Bonang Matheba recently shared snaps of herself on a shoot in Lagos, along with the news that she was shooting the lookbook for a new collection by Nigerian designer Toju Foyeh, for which she was the muse.
“I have always known and loved Toju’s work, and have never really had the opportunity to work with her. She views me as her fashion icon and this lookbook we created was a collection based on that.”
Matheba says the collaboration came about through her good friend Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa.
“We started speaking about two months ago through Toke, who often wears Toju’s designs.” The inspiration behind the lookbook is “a modern woman in the jungle – which kinda speaks to me and my life”, she says. Matheba, who bagged an SA Style Icon award last year, says of the decision to collaborate with Foyeh: “Since the Metro FM Music Awards, I have been consciously embarking on challenging my fashion by not staying within my comfort zone.” Her favourite item in the collection is the silver jumpsuit. “Toju is known for her fabric selection and she captured my style beautifully. “She got the glamour and regalness of me. She also introduced new aspects like the Gele [iconic Nigerian head wrap].”
