New Black Coffee album in the works

CityPress - - News -

House DJ and record producer Black Coffee isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.

The sought-after DJ is in the country this week, and although he’s off his tour for a bit, he had a packed schedule. However, he did find a few moments to chat to City Press.

“I am working on the follow-up to Pieces of Me [which is about 10 months old] … Initially, we had planned to rerelease it, but my trips to Europe and the UK made me realise what appeals to the markets we wanted to rerelease Pieces of Me for. So we decided to make something that appeals to the market rather than assume that Pieces of Me was it…”

The yet-to-be-named album will be released in the US market first, and then in Europe and Africa.

When Black Coffee leaves later today, he’s back on the road with his highly successful tour, and then he’ll move back to South Africa in August, where he will continue gigging.

Next week, he will be at the BET Awards in Los Angeles, where he’s up for a Best International Act: Africa Award.

He is currently based in California, where he says he’s also doing some great work on the production side of things.

“I want to separate Black Coffee the House DJ and Black Coffee the producer because with my production I don’t want to be limited to House or even just music for the radio or the club. So, we are working on that. House music is still my chosen art form, but I also want to go beyond it.”
