There are statistics, damned statistics, and the 2016 US polls (with apologies to Mark Twain). Although most polls have consistently given Hillary Clinton the lead, some indicate that Republican nominee Donald Trump might stand a chance.
Internal polls by both campaigns differ from popular polls because they use different methods. Even though Trump has claimed his support is much higher than the polls indicate, a Politico/Morning Consult study this week found “shy Trumpers” do exist, but not in the kind of numbers that would make a difference.
