What kind of a leader? – a poem

CityPress - - Voices -

Johnny Mash Gauteng What kind of a leader Would fight for freedom and when he achieved it treat it like a commodity What kind of a leader Would see his comrades die in arms and in honouring and remembering them betray the trust and ideals they stood for What kind of a leader Would sell his country to the highest bidder after sacrificing his life for it What kind of a leader Entrusted with his friend’s daughter takes it upon himself to make sexual advances on her What kind of a leader With a tendency for adopting blessees would always be a beneficent blesser at the expense of our state coffers What kind of a leader Would allow his friends access to unauthorised state facilities in order to ingratiate himself What kind of a leader Would capture the prosecution agencies the police force and justice ministries to mitigate his illicit activities What kind of a leader Thinks if he can fool some of the people sometimes he can fool all the people all the time What kind of a leader Would put allegiance to his political party above his fidelity and obligation to the country he fought for What kind of a leader Having lost his integrity and credibility would incessantly hurl globs of spit on the graves of Biko, Tambo and Mandela And what kind of a leader Instead of being remorseful would rather accuse his detractors of vindictively victimising him
