Sam gets another four years
Gideon Sam was yesterday re-elected as South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) president for another four-year term, which runs until 2020. Sam was first elected President in 2008. Hajera Kajee who contested the top position, lost out but was retained as deputy president, a position she held before yesterday’s elections.
Gauteng Sports Council president Barry Hendricks, who was initially disqualified, was reinstated in the race after an emergency meeting last week. He won the race for the vice president position.
South African Rugby Union president, Mark Alexander, was elected to the board for the four-year term.
Other board members are Merrill King, Kobus Marais, Debbie Alexander and Leslie Williams.
