Sam gets an­other four years

Gideon Sam was yes­ter­day re-elected as South African Sports Con­fed­er­a­tion and Olympic Com­mit­tee (Sas­coc) pres­i­dent for an­other four-year term, which runs un­til 2020. Sam was first elected Pres­i­dent in 2008. Ha­jera Ka­jee who con­tested the top po­si­tion, lost out but was re­tained as deputy pres­i­dent, a po­si­tion she held be­fore yes­ter­day’s elec­tions.

Gaut­eng Sports Coun­cil pres­i­dent Barry Hen­dricks, who was ini­tially dis­qual­i­fied, was re­in­stated in the race af­ter an emer­gency meet­ing last week. He won the race for the vice pres­i­dent po­si­tion.

South African Rugby Union pres­i­dent, Mark Alexan­der, was elected to the board for the four-year term.

Other board mem­bers are Mer­rill King, Kobus Marais, Deb­bie Alexan­der and Les­lie Wil­liams.
