Cyril for Cosatu
The same Sdumo Dlamini – the last standing communist still supporting Number One – can see that Cabinet position ebbing away. But he is not the only one disheartened by Cosatu’s declared support for Buffalo Cyril to succeed the Prez.
The National Union of Metalworkers of SA slammed the plan to vote for “the chief executive of the minerals, energy and finance complex and white monopoly capital”. Not to be outdone, ANC youth leader Oros said: “If Cosatu wants Cyril as president, they can make him president of Cosatu at their own national congress.”
Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini had “biggernyana skeletons” to deal with this week in Parliament when the Standing Committee on Public Accounts grilled her department and the SA Social Security Agency on irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure, amounting to millions of rands, that they could not explain.
The usually motormouthed Dlamini had no words to explain the state of her department and seemed to have no clue what was happening under her watch. She asked for more time to come up with satisfactory answers.
But what she may actually need is a bigger cabinet for her skeletons.
