3Hustle

Yanked off the air at one point because of its controversial sexual content, Hustle deserves praise for its courage in representing love as acceptable for all South Africans, including queer ones. Thankfully, the show returned to the screen.

2The Sober Companion

Trevor Gumbi and Tiffany Barbuzano brought this littleappreciated gem to the screen. How it failed to attract big audiences is still puzzling and I can only blame Hlaudi Motsoeneng for that.

1Real Talk with Anele

Who would have thought that a free (to the broadcaster) afternoon talk show would be the best show of 2016? It just goes to show that true talent, such as Anele Mdoda’s, shines regardless. A special mention goes to Idols for choosing the best singer and the most deserving winner in Noma Khumalo.
