Based on your voice?

Some exclusively invited Joburgers stepped out in sky-high heels and fancy jackets for the launch of The Glenfiddich Independent Bar on 14 Reserve Street in Braamfontein on Wednesday night. The pitch? A chance to experience “the world’s first biomixology bar”. Stepping through the door, we were asked to enter our names and cellphone numbers on an iPad programme (suspense). Then we say our names into an attached microphone (more suspense). So what was the concept? A bespoke cocktail mixed according to your voice. Guests were sent codes to their cellphones that would instruct the bartender what drinks to mix.

After descending downstairs into a den of copper, wood and lush upholstery, we slid into a booth and black-dressed waitresses took our SMSed codes and flitted off to collect our cocktails.

My drink came in a tumbler and was a lovely light gold colour. It had not a hint of sweetness, but an interesting vanilla flavour that was quite appealing with the whisky. A dried slice of pear gave a lovely aroma.

I wondered what that says about my voice?
