My friend’s drink had less whisky and more gin­ger ale – def­i­nitely a sweeter drink. I’ve al­ways known she’s the nicer one. While we sipped we were plied with canapés – pulled beef spring rolls, fried risotto balls with Parme­san, mini cheese­cakes with savoury mar­malade, and bite-sized burg­ers with pitch black buns. Af­ter our be­spoke drink, we could choose other whisky-in­fused cock­tails. One came with gin­ger, honey and orange juice, and while I loved the warm citrus flavour, my friend said it tasted like “her grandma’s dresser”. She’s spicy, that one. The other cock­tail came in a huge wine-like glass and was all shaved ice, co­conut and vanilla. Sorry, whisky purists! Af­ter booz­ing and snacking, we tot­tered out into the balmy Braam­fontein air. Who knew our voices could be used for drinks?
