With 11 official languages, South Africa is often in conflict over which one takes precedence. SABC’s Tshivenda drama series, Muvhango, has done its fair share of promoting the language spoken in the far northern parts of the country. The show, one of the longest-running on TV, recently celebrated its 20th year on air and continues to keep viewers glued to its tales of the Venda people.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, fresh from defending her decisions on the social grants payment crisis, told ANC supporters at President Jacob Zuma’s birthday bash that “rogues” were leaving because “we are led by a very strong leader”. Anyone would sing for their supper after surviving the Cabinet chop.
