Swiss town bans tourists from taking photos

A community in Switzerland has decided to ban tourists from taking photos at a popular tourist destination because it is “too beautiful” and any photos of it would induce unbearable envy.

Bergün looks like something out of a fairy tale and you have to go there in person to appreciate it, the locals say. The town has put up a sign warning tourists that they’re not allowed to take photos, reports the Daily Star.

The sign reads: “Photographs of our picturesque landscape, shared on social media, can make others unhappy because they themselves cannot be here.”

The community voted to ban tourists from taking pictures as they want their visitors to “take in the beauty of it without phones”.

Naturally, tourists have flouted the ban and have taken selfies next to the sign, and also still capture images of the stunning views.

To be able to take photos, the city’s mayor said there was a “friendly special permit” that allows photography within the city limits. The permit is free – all you need to do is ask.
