Luthando “LootLove” Shosha’s star is shining very bright. She has become well known for presenting shows including Live Amp and The Urban Music Experience.

While Shosha is now a fully fledged professional in the entertainment industry, her light was first noticed on a VJ search.

And she has been given the opportunity to host the MTV Base VJ Search, which will be looking to unearth undiscovered presenting talent.

Asked how it felt to have come full circle and now be a judge on a show very similar to the one that launched her career, she said: “It’s the most amazing feeling. The thing about being a judge is, people trust your opinion because of how well you’ve done in your career.

“It’s also really beautiful to know I am going to play a big part in making someone’s dream come true,” she said, adding that to be trusted to have the ability to make considered decisions and come to sensible conclusions was satisfying.

The process of finding talent has taken her back to the time when she was starting out, she said. She described the contestants as “full of talent and hunger”.

“There’s nothing like being given the chance to chase your dreams. They are ready for anything. As long as it’s a step closer to their dreams coming true. Also the faith and belief in themselves, it’s beautiful.”

The MTV Base VJ Search hit the screens on Wednesday on MTV Base (DStv channel 322) this week.

King Loot explained just what the show offers hopefuls: “A chance to be great, to be part of an amazing network of talented individuals.

“It is a life-changing experience as well. A chance to show everyone how dope you are through your work and cool,” she added.

The idea behind the show is to launch young and talented people’s careers as well as offer guidance and expertise.

It is aimed at ensuring the contenders’ careers get exposure and that the winner’s opportunities are sustainable.

The industry is still littered with challenges, said Shosha.

“I think the biggest challenge is the rejection you still deal with. There are plenty of nos and doors closing, even post-breaking through the industry.

“But after a while, you understand it’s just part of the game. Part of training you and making you better.” Wise words from a woman who has been in the industry and flourishing for a while now.

Be sure to catch Shosha, along with fellow judges Thomas Gumede and Nomalanga Shozi, on the MTV Base VJ Search with host and 2013 winner Sandile Ntshingila.
