What about football heroes from outside Joburg?

CityPress - - Sport - Prince Baloyi via email

It is with regret that I note your bias regarding the names of football heroes you mentioned in your column Pressing Issues (City Press, July 16 2017).

It seems that , according to you, heroes in our lovely country only originate from Johannesburg.

There are living legends from Pretoria, such as Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe, Jan “Malombo” Lechaba and Conti Kekana, as well as the late Steve “Kalamazoo” Mokone, who are hardly mentioned in your articles.

All those soccer greats you mentioned don’t even come close to Masterpieces Moripe, who is seen as the god of football.

It’s unfortunate that such bias is well entrenched in writers of your calibre.

I may be accused of being biased myself as I originate from Pretoria, but the truth should be told in terms of your approach.

Let’s give fair and balanced reporting when it comes to our football heroes.

When we engage in arguments with colleagues about the heroes of yesteryear, what we agree on is that heroes from Pretoria receive less coverage and recognition.

It’s fortunate that those soccer greats can’t be wished away – they played their part to be given sound recognition.

Kindly name a player who has so far originated from Johannesburg and is better than Moripe.

Hoping for a response with credible players of note.
