The world of wine can sometimes be an intimidating arena, but Pick n Pay and its knowledgeable sommeliers are guiding shoppers and making it easier to navigate the uncharted waters.

Pick n Pay launched its new wine club, a free-to-join affair that gives Smart Shopper customers 20% off its wine buyers’ top 10 every month, plus exclusive offers, discounts, recipes and competitions.

“We’re laid back about wine and we think it’s cool that you are too. From pies and rosé to braais and Pinotage, the Pick n Pay Wine Club is all about good wine for real people,” says the store.

Thursday night saw the club launch at Thyme on Nicol in Johannesburg.

The media and shoppers who had bought wine at Pick n Pay were invited for a night of tastings, good food and mingling.

A photo booth and a caricature artist provided plenty of fun.

The event had six booths, each with pairing experiences featuring, among others, Tokara Sauvignon blanc with a fish taco and slaw, L’Avenir Pinotage with mushroom bourbon and pickled cucumber, Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon with beef short rib and cauliflower rice, and Warwick Rosé and cheesecake for dessert. Guests won bottles of wine and walked away with goodie bags filled with – you guessed it – more wine.
