The bulbs and grasses in the Fairholme parterre garden have been expertly selected for a succession of blooms throughout the year.
WINTER-FLOWERING BULBS Leucojum aestivum and Hyacinthoides nonscripta ‘Bluebells’ SPRING-FLOWERING BULBS Sparaxis bulbifera, Watsonia
meriana ‘Coral’, Tritonia securigera ‘Flame Freesia’ and T. disticha, Dierama
trichorizum ‘Angel’s Fishing Rod’, Ixia scillaris and Gladioli sp. SUMMERFLOWERING BULBS Mixed deciduous agapanthus such as ‘Graskop’, ‘Lydenberg’, ‘Long Tom’ and Ornithogalum thyrsoides ‘Chinkerinchee’. The latter is usually spring flowering but in this garden it flowers in midsummer. AUTUMN-FLOWERING BULBS Nerines GRASSES The majority is Aristida junciformis with some Stipa gigantea. Aristidia visually holds the parterre together as it looks good all year, whether in flower or not.
