Alchemy Bar and Black­strap

Just a year old, alchemy has be­come the north Coast bar at which to be seen while en­joy­ing live out­door mu­sic. here, craft tip­ple gets an aes­thetic dose of glam. old-fash­ioned cock­tail recipes are pre­sented in faceted glass gob­lets, with fresh fruit and herbs high­light­ing them with con­tem­po­rary colour. Most of the drinks on of­fer are south african, with a strong fo­cus on gin (and a g&t on tap!). Black­strap, the in-house brand pro­duced in its craft dis­tillery on the same prop­erty, has just re­leased a small-batch gin, named gin­sala, in­spired by the KZN sugar belt and the re­gion’s fra­grant spice mar­kets.

It’s in­fused with botan­i­cals used in the masala spice blend, a bold char­ac­ter­is­tic of the area’s renowned In­dian cui­sine. The dis­tillery hosts tu­tored tast­ings and also of­fers the venue for hire, with the op­por­tu­nity to be ed­u­cated on the pro­duc­tion of craft gin, and try­ing your hand at mixol­ogy. alche­my­; black­
