Ditch Him Like an Adult

Three little steps to drama-free independence

Cosmopolitan (South Africa) - - LOVE LUST -

Step 1 Be very clear

‘People try to be nice by making a break-up sound less definite – but it should be definite,’ says Gary Lewandowski, a professor of psychology at Monmouth University. Say, ‘It’s done.’

Step 2 Take ownership

Your soon-to-be ex is sure to ask why you want to split. Own your decision, and focus your response on you. Admit your role in things – it’s not one-sided – and you’ll both gain useful insight.

Step 3 Get back to doing you

‘ You probably loved this person, so you’re not going to get off feeling totally clean,’ says Lewandowski. Beat guilt or remorse by recalling the legit reason you made this choice.
