WE ALL know and live by our personal core values. Some of the values include integrity, service before self, accountability and excellence in all we do.

Now that most town councils, metros and municipalities have elected public representatives who will serve communities during the next five years, will they uphold these core values in all they do?

The foundation of our core values is “integrity first”.

Webster’s online dictionary defines integrity as “a general competency contributing to maintaining the integrity of the organisation; displaying high standards of ethical conduct; understanding the impact of violating these standards on the organisation, self, and others”.

Critical to this definition is maintaining ethical standards and this starts with personal accountability. Simply put, you must be true to yourself before you can be true to others or an organisation.
