Kings watch as Glasgow fire on

- By GEORGE BYRON

WHILE the Southern Kings take a three-week break, their next Pro14 opponents Glasgow Warriors are facing a tough fortnight campaigning in the European Champions Cup.

After losing their opening six matches, the Kings have a muchneeded chance to regroup before they travel to Scotland to face the Warriors on October 27.

In contrast to the Kings, Glasgow have won all six of their opening Pro14 matches and now face Cup games against Exeter Chiefs and Leinster.

Glasgow then play host to threetime European champions Leinster the following weekend ahead of back-to-back meetings in December with Montpellier, who are coached by former Scotland head coach, Vern Cotter.

Glasgow centre Sam Johnson said his team were looking forward to bringing intensity and brutality to English champions Exeter Chiefs.

After their first trip to South Africa, where they beat Pro14 newcomers Free State Cheetahs, Glasgow are on the road again this week to face the Chiefs.

The reigning English champions are among three class sides Glasgow must compete with during the course of their forthcoming campaign.

They play host to three-time European champions Leinster the following weekend ahead of backto-back meetings in December with Montpellier who are coached by former Scotland head coach Vern Cotter and are currently second in the French Top 14.

Johnson said his team had gained confidence from having to contend with playing at altitude as well as a lengthy trip last weekend to face the Cheetahs.

“It was a tough game, but the boys just kept working for each other against the Cheetahs,” said the centre, who arrived at Glasgow two years ago after previously playing for Super Rugby’s Queensland Reds.

“I suppose the intensity we play at was not something the Cheetahs were used to, and I think that worked in the end.”

The pools for the Champions Cup are:

Pool 2: Clermont (France), Northampton (England), Ospreys (Wales), Saracens (England)
