Es­caped mur­derer nabbed in Mthatha

East­ern Cape po­lice have re­ar­rested a dan­ger­ous mur­derer who es­caped from a max­i­mum se­cu­rity prison in May.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice spokesper­son Cap­tain Dineo Koena, po­lice from the Mthatha Fly­ing Squad and clus­ter were in­formed that 28-year-old Man­disi Makanda, who was serv­ing a life sen­tence for mur­der, was seen at the Cir­cus Tri­an­gle bus rank in Mthatha on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon.

num­ber scratched off as well as two mag­a­zines and 14 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

Makanda es­caped with his brother, Sim­phiwe Makanda, and two other in­mates af­ter shoot­ing and in­jur­ing a prison guard at the Rooigrond prison in Mahikeng, North West. The four dis­armed the warder, shot him and sped off in a stolen prison ve­hi­cle driven by Man­disi.

Sim­phiwe was re­ar­rested in Septem­ber.

Man­disi is due to ap­pear in court soon.
