Veteran writer to launch his book

- JOHN HARVEY johnh@dispatch.co.za

Struggle veteran Mkhuseli “Khusta” Jack will launch his book at the Guild Theatre in East London on February 12.

The book, To Survive and Succeed: From farm boy to businessman, chronicles Jack’s activism against the apartheid government, but also details his rise as a successful businessman in South Africa’s democratic dispensation.

The launch next Tuesday will be attended by a host of wellknown businessmen, politicians and personalities.

These include businessman Saki Macozoma, Buffalo City deputy mayor Zoliswa Matana and Vuyiseka Mboxela of the South African Youth Council.

Keith Ngesi of Keith Ngesi Radio will emcee the event, while Ray Hartle of the Daily Dispatch will facilitate the question and answer session.

Jack said he hoped the people of Buffalo City would come out to support the efforts of those writing today.

“We will never decolonise in this country by just talking. We need to start implementing fundamental actions,” Jack said.

“It is important for us to understand as a country what the struggle was about, which is why we need to keep bringing up the struggle through writing and other actions.”

He hoped to see many young people at the event, as he believed the country was “veering away” from the lessons of the struggle.

“The idea of transformation has become empty slogans and rhetoric. The more the youth reads, the more they will understand what is required to bring about true transformation.”

While entry to the book launch is free, seats can be reserved by emailing info@kwela.co.za.
