BAGS FOR A BOOST

Blue Ribbon has launched an initiative where empty bread plastic bags can be turned into currency, which can be swapped for bread, airtime and grocery vouchers. The Drop and Swap initiative has been extended to 13 communities across the country. Customers simply have to bring their empty Blue Ribbon bread bags to the drop and swap stations to receive their rewards. Besides helping to feed the needy, a further benefit to the initiative is a reduction of plastic bag pollution in communities.

REVISED HIGH-RISK TRAVELLER LIST

The Department of Home Affairs has reviewed its list of high-risk countries, where travellers are restricted from entering South Africa. While the department has reduced the number of countries from 60 to just

22, it will not allow leisure travellers from these countries to enter South Africa. Only business travellers, holders of critical skills visas, investors and people on international missions in sports, arts, culture and science from these countries are welcome. Tourism groups are arguing that this could have a devastating effect on the industry that continues to decelerate.
