Search for Peruvian Air Force helicopter

PERUVIAN authoritie­s said they were looking for a Peruvian Air Force (FAP) helicopter that went missing in the north of the country on Tuesday.

The Soviet-made Mi-17 chopper left Urakuza, in northern Peru’s Amazonas region, at about 12.50am carrying aid to the nearby community of Chija but did not reach its destinatio­n, the FAP said.

“Four FAP personnel were on board the aircraft, but it has not yet been possible to determine if there are human losses because there is no informatio­n about it,” FAP spokespers­on Wolfgang Grozo was cited by daily El Comercio as saying.

FAP said that special search and rescue team were en-route to the area to help locate the helicopter.
