Syria joins plan
NEW YORK: Syria has officially joined the Paris climate agreement, a UN spokesman said yesterday, leaving the US as the only country not party to it. Syria announced it would sign the agreement last week. The move is widely considered symbolic given that Syria is engulfed by a civil war.
Damascus submitted instruments of accession to the agreement on Monday, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters in New York.
The Paris agreement will enter into effect for the country on December 13.
