Cops gather for prayer day

-

The event was attended by the Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Risimati Shivuri, and his provincial management.

Candles were lit by the provincial commissioner and a moment of silence was observed for members who had died in the line of duty.

In his keynote address, the provincial commissioner pointed out that being a police officer was not just a job but a calling.

“Police officials need the wisdom and protection of God to do what they are mandated to do by the constitution, which is to prevent, combat and investigate crime, to maintain public order and to secure the inhabitants of South Africa and their property and to further uphold and enforce the law,” he said.

He told police members to always be ready and to serve with dignity, whether they were on or off duty, as they had the whole country relying on them to prevent and combat crime.

“Members must move away from corruption because they will be investigated in the same way as the community are if they break the law,” he warned.

He further advised members to assist and encourage each other not to give up on life.
