Busi­ness project launched

THE DEPUTY di­rec­tor gen­eral of the Ex­panded Pub­lic Works Pro­gramme (EPWP), Stan­ley Hen­der­son, launched the EPWP de­vel­op­ment project to sup­port small busi­nesses ear­lier this week.

Hen­der­son said that eight out of a to­tal of 27 iden­ti­fied small busi­nesses in the North­ern Cape were al­ready re­ceiv­ing as­sis­tance through this pro­gramme in the form of skills, train­ing, ac­cess to start-up cap­i­tal and the pro­vi­sion of equip­ment and machin­ery, to the value of R1 mil­lion.

“Through the De­part­ment of Small Busi­ness De­vel­op­ment, the Na­tional Youth De­vel­op­ment Agency, train­ing SETAs, mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties, agri­cul­tural part­ners, provin­cial and na­tional gov­ern­ment as­sis­tance will be pro­vided to co-op­er­a­tives and small busi­nesses to en­able them to en­ter the re­tail mar­kets,” said Hen­der­son.

He pointed out that the pro­gramme was de­signed to kick-start busi­nesses.

“Em­ploy­ment should not end once a gov­ern­ment project is com­pleted.”
