A WELL-known Kakamas resident was murdered yesterday, allegedly by his domestic worker.

The body of Jan Johannes Petrus Hough, 64, was found in an open veld near Spieelkop, Kakamas, around 11am.

He was last seen around 7am yesterday morning when he went to Langverwag, in Kakamas, to fetch his domestic worker, a male in his late 20s. Hough never returned home. The domestic worker was later seen driving around in Hough’s vehicle.

When the worker was confronted, he abandoned the vehicle and ran away.

It was then noticed that the suspect had red stains on his shirt that appeared to be blood and the incident was reported to the police.

The police later also discovered that the suspect allegedly admitted to someone that he had just murdered a person.

Members of the community and various police units then started searching for Hough.

Around 11am, his body was found in an open veld near Spieelkop, Kakamas.

“He was fully dressed and it was clear that he was already dead. He was stabbed with a knife. At the same time that the body was discovered, a suspect was arrested close to his home in Langverwag, Kakamas,” police spokesman, Captain Francois Steenkamp, said.

The suspect will appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Kakamas tomorrow.

Detective Captain Van Kradenburg is the investigation officer in the case and anyone with information regarding the incident can contact him on 054 431 0863 or 076 021 5056.
