Es­tate launches flamingo view­ing deck at Kam­fers Dam

IN AN EF­FORT to of­fer tourists, res­i­dents and avian en­thu­si­asts in gen­eral the best van­tage point of one of the city’s un­der-ap­pre­ci­ated spec­ta­cles, the Flamingo View Es­tate of­fi­cially launched its view­ing deck over­look­ing Kam­fers Dam yes­ter­day morn­ing.

The deck is sit­u­ated at the es­tate, along the N12, and will al­low vis­i­tors an un­prece­dented view of the lo­cal dam that has be­come syn­ony­mous as a breed­ing ground for lesser flamin­gos and other species of aquatic birds.

Owned by lo­cal busi­ness­men Daniel Mo­rake and Lek­gari Mekgwe, the es­tate is still un­der de­vel­op­ment but has al­ready hosted a num­ber of events in its mar­quee tents

Spokesper­son for Flamingo View, Eve­lyn Marup­ing, pointed out that the view­ing plat­form, which will soon be equipped with a coin-op­er­ated tele­scope, re­mained their core ser­vice.

“At the mo­ment Flamingo View Es­tate is in the fin­ish­ing stage of its first phase, which is the Flamingo Deck and venue fa­cil­i­ties,” Marup­ing said.

“So far con­struc­tion of all the el­e­ments re­quired for phase one have been com­pleted and strate­gies for gen­er­at­ing in­come now need to be im­ple­mented.”

To this end, vis­i­tors will need to pay an en­try fee of R20 for adults and R15 for school­child­ren.

The fa­cil­ity will be open daily from 9am to 6.30pm.
