ANCYL can­di­date ar­rested for as­sault

AN ANC Youth League (ANCYL) mem­ber, who is vy­ing for the po­si­tion of chair­per­son in the up­com­ing pro­vin­cial con­fer­ence, has been ar­rested on charges of point­ing a firearm and as­sault with in­tent to do griev­ous bod­ily harm.

He is ex­pected to ap­pear in the Galeshewe Mag­is­trate’s Court to­day.

Po­lice spokesper­son, Sergeant Ma­jang Skalkie, con­firmed that a 34-year-old man was ar­rested on Mon­day, at about 2.40pm, fol­low­ing al­le­ga­tions that he pointed a firearm at his girl­friend’s friend and as­saulted his girl­friend on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 7.

The sus­pect was pro­nounced by a lo­cal ANCYL branch as its pre­ferred can­di­date for the po­si­tion of pro­vin­cial ANCYL chair­per­son fol­low­ing a branch gen­eral meet­ing that was held on Septem­ber 3.

The branch stated that he had “im­pec­ca­ble cre­den­tials as a young politi­cian” af­ter join­ing the or­gan­i­sa­tion 17 years ago, and was a mem­ber in good stand­ing.
