Turfwar

-

ORGANISERS of the upcoming turfwar six-a-side open day, taking place at the end of the month, has extended an open invitation to Primary Schools to enter teams for the festival.

Currently seven teams have officially entered with players between the ages of four and 14 years old. The organisers have extended the closing date for entries to Wednesday, February 13.

Having more primary schools entering could aid local coaches in identifying players for upcoming primary school’s leagues and also give Under-13 players an opportunity to work off the rust before the looming provincial trials.

Schools, coaches and parents are reminded that this particular turfwar event is open to all players between the ages of four and 14 and not just turfwar members.

During the festival teams will be made up of six players, with three boys and three girls in each team.

Teams may register as many players as they like, but only six may take the field at a time. The other players will be reserves and can be substituted at any time.

The scheduled date for the turfwar festival and open day is Friday February 22. Games will start at 3pm at Hoërskool Diamantveld (B rugby field). Umpires will be provided for the games.

Participating players will pay R50 each to be part of the festival and with entries closing next Wednesday there is still plenty of time to register.

Individual players can be registered by sending their name, surname and age to Grant Brooker on 083 265 3359 (the individual will then be allocated to a turfwar team).
