NEWS IN BRIEF
GALESHEWE Dennis Peterson, 42, is expected to reappear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on February 15 on charges of assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm after allegedly stabbing a 36-year-old man in his chest in Bloemanda on January 11, at about 11.30pm.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Majang Skalkie said that Peterson was arrested on January 16.
She added that he was released on bail of R300. OLIFANTSHOEK The DA said yesterday that it has referred the ongoing water crisis at Gamagara Municipality to the SA Human Rights Commission, after residents have been struggling with poor water supply for the past five months.
Community members this week petrol bombed a vehicle from a scrap yard and also looted and torched a heavy-duty truck transporting crates of beer on the N14, during protests over the water crisis.
KIMBERLEY The licensing section of the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s traffic department is currently off-line, according to a notice issued by the local authority. Municipal spokesperson Sello Matsie said yesterday that the department had been informed by the Provincial Help Desk that no transactions could be performed. “This is a national problem. The system is apparently printing everything for free.”
He added that there had been no indication how long it would take before the error was corrected and the system could go back online.
“No transactions will be done until further notice.” GALESHEWE Residents in Greater Number 5 in Galeshewe have been warned that there will be a power shutdown today.
“The electricity supply to this area will be switched off from 8am in order to allow workers to replace an MV overhead line pole,” Matsie said.
The following streets will be affected: Ubuntu area, Malebe, 5 April Street, Magoda, Mojanaga, Mmelesi, Gaborone and Kgopisho Street.
The electricity will remain off until the work has been completed but residents are warned to treat all electrical points as live.
