UPINGTON Seventeen mandrax tablets and dagga weighing 12kg, with an estimated street value of R12 000, was confiscate­d by Upington police on Friday evening.

According to police spokespers­on Captain Sergio Kock, members of the Upington SAPS received informatio­n about the drugs and immediatel­y pounced on the suspects in Louisvale.

“Three suspects, aged between 30 and 35, were arrested. The station commander of Upington, Brigadier Sampie Koopman, applauded the swift reaction of members. The suspects will appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Monday (today),” Kock said.

Police investigat­ions continue. NABABEEP A 33-year-old Nababeep woman was arrested by police on Thursday night on suspicion that she murdered her two-year-old son by bashing him with a rock.

It is believed that the alleged incident took place in the veld at Jakkalswat­er in Nababeep.

“The motive for the alleged murder has not yet been determined. The cluster commander of Namakwa, Brigadier Francis Hender, has appealed to the community to seek assistance when faced with social challenges rather than engaging in criminal activities,” Kock said.

He added that the suspect is expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court today.
