Go! Drive & Camp

HERE’S SOMETHING YOUR PALS PROBABLY DON’T KNOW

-

You’ve probably seen photographs of the world-famous Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock – a gigantic red-brown rock standing in the vast desolation of Australia’s Northern Territory. Only a few hours’ drive from Johannesburg and 10 km outside the Swazi capital Mbabane, you’ll find a similar natural wonder. Sibebe Rock is the largest exposed granite rock on Earth (the clever guys call it a pluton). Its geological composition is different to that of Uluru and it’s known as the second largest exposed rock on Earth. Uluru is officially the biggest, but according to some scientists, Sibebe might actually be the big boy. Whatever the case may be, Sibebe is definitely the oldest at three billion years. That’s three times older than the Aussie! During our tour we stopped to admire the monolith from its foot next to the road into town, but you can also hike to the top. There are several guided tours. They start from the Mbuluzi gate and only cost R25 per person. Call +268 240 46070 to book.
