Trevor Hill: MD of Audi South Africa

WITH 27 YEARS OF EX­PE­RI­ENCE WITH THE VW GROUP HERE AND OVER­SEAS– A MULTI-TAL­ENTED SOUTH AFRICAN, TREVOR HILL (55), TOOK OVER THE PO­SI­TION AS HEAD OF AUDI IN SOUTH AFRICA IN JUNE 2017. ROGER MCCLEERY SAT DOWN WITH THE NEW TOP MAN AT AUDI.

Af­ter five years as Dealer Train­ing and De­vel­op­ment Man­ager in Jo­han­nes­burg, at­tend­ing to the needs of the in­de­pen­dent deal­ers, Hill went over­seas in 1997 to the Audi Head­quar­ters in In­gol­stadt, Ger­many.

There, Hill set up a train­ing di­vi­sion in mar­ket­ing and sales as Audi started its move into the pre­mium brand sec­tor of the mar­ket. Twenty years later, Audi is the num­ber one pre­mium brand in Western Europe above its Ger­man ri­vals. It is also the third pre­mium brand in the Amer­i­can mar­ket where it has seen six years of growth.

Trevor Hill then went in­ter­na­tional – first to Ja­pan for a cou­ple of years be­fore re­lo­cat­ing to Bei­jing in China where he over­saw sales ris­ing from 80,000 cars to 128,000 cars. Now, 600,000 Audis are sold each year in China.

His mov­ing con­tin­ued. First to a new mar­ket in South Korea as MD of both Audi and Volk­swa­gen for six years, then it was on to Dubai as MD in charge of the en­tire Mid­dle East mar­ket us­ing his ex­per­tise in train­ing, de­vel­op­ment, and sales and mar­ket­ing.

Be­fore mov­ing back to South Africa this year, Hill re­lo­cated from Dubai to the Audi head of­fice in In­gol­stadt, to be in­volved in the brand’s strate­gic “In­ter­na­tional Plan­ning” project, which took a holis­tic view of the mar­ket and prod­uct op­por­tu­ni­ties go­ing for­ward.

Ed­u­cated at Jeppe High School in Jo­han­nes­burg, Hill played cricket and hockey for the school. He then went on to qual­ify for a Higher Diploma in Ed­u­ca­tion at Wits Univer­sity with a view to be­com­ing
