The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls is a boarding school set on a 52-acre campus in near Meyerton, south of Johannesburg. Students are housed in five residences on the campus. It boasts a hi-tech computer lab, a wellness centre, a 600-seater theatre, an outdoor auditorium and a library with 10 000 books. There is also a dance studio, a gym, 21 classrooms and six laboratories.

The school is open to learners who are in Grade 7 and whose family’s total household income is less than R10 000 a month. Learners across the spectrum are welcome, as long as they are South African citizens or permanent residents. The application process consists of four stages.
