WHAT SHE LEARNT

Andrea, who’s from Mitchells Plain in Cape Town, says Oprah equipped her with all the life lessons she needs to become a powerful woman.

HER FAMILY

Andrea’s dad was the sole breadwinner in their household, which made the likelihood of her getting into a good school slim. But when her grandmother found an application form for Oprah’s school in a retail-store newsletter, it marked the start of a new beginning for Andrea.

HER FUTURE

Andrea has a passion for fashion and is studying fashion design at the North West School of Design in Klerksdorp. She received a bursary from designer Gert-Johan Coetzee, who is also her mentor.

Her ultimate goal is to design a couture garment for Oprah, who gave her the opportunity of a lifetime. “I’d love to see her in a beautiful dress designed by me because I may not have the finances to repay her for everything she has given me,” Andrea says.
