RICK BRAUN AROUND THE HORN

Smooth jazz is littered with saxophonists, but it’s hard to find decent trumpeters. Rick Braun, however, is one of the most imaginative players around – and he’s a great producer too.

On Around the Horn he collaborates with gospel singer John Stoddard who co-produced five songs. The opening track, So Strong, has house influences and is likely to get a thumbs-up from club fiends. – MPHO TSHIKHUDO

KABOMO UNAPOLOGETIC

He was well on his way to becoming the poster boy for local neo-soul, then he recorded his new double album Unapologetic, and it’s a far cry from his previous projects.

The first part, The Hip-Hop Album, has so many collaborations that Kabomo sounds like a guest artist. But the second part, The House Album, has tracks that could be instant radio hits. - MPHO TSHIKHUDO
