Dry­ers with heat pumps are the new­est tech­nol­ogy ad­vance­ment in this cat­e­gory, ac­cord­ing to Michael.

While a tra­di­tional dryer uses an el­e­ment to heat, which isn’t very cost-ef­fec­tive, a heat pump works like an air con­di­tioner. “The heat pump cre­ates the warm air which dries your clothes. This is about 100 to 150% more ef­fec­tive in terms of sav­ing elec­tric­ity. It’s re­mar­kable the amount of money you can save on a tum­ble dryer if you have a heat pump.”

An­gela, how­ever, be­lieves in stay­ing clear of ap­pli­ances that gen­er­ate heat. Tum­ble dry­ers are a lux­ury, she be­lieves, not a ne­ces­sity. How­ever, if you’re go­ing to use one, look for an en­vi­ron­ment-friendly op­tion.
