THE RISE AND RISE OF SOMIZI

DRUM - - News -

He’s never been shy of talking about all the times he’s been down and out in the industry. But each time he’s been down, he’s managed to come back bigger and better. And this time, Somizi’s star just keeps shining.

Somgaga is everywhere – just switch on your TV, radio and phone. There isn’t a channel or social media platform that Somizi isn’t trending on every week.

He’s currently co-host of the Fresh Breakfast show on Metro FM with DJ Fresh, a judge on Idols SA on M-Net and he hosts Vuzu Amp’s popular entertainment show V-Entertainment.

There seems to be no limits to his talents – last month he dropped a single, Ngibonile, FAR LEFT: He recently scooped three YOU Spectacular awards. LEFT: He’s a cohost on the Fresh Breakfast Show on Metro FM with DJ Fresh, and he’s on V-Entertainment (RIGHT). featuring Heavy K.

No doubt, he’s one of the most sought-after celebs in Mzansi.

“I said at the beginning of the year that I own 2016 and 2017, and so far God has exceeded my expectations,” Somizi told DRUM last year (The year of Somgaga, 1 September 2016).

He’s certainly proved that! And it’s nothing but hard work.

His day starts at 3am and he often doesn’t get home before 10.30pm. “I wake up at 3am, have to be at the studio at 4.30am until 8am then carry on with my other business,” he says.

But, he confesses that no matter how long he’s been an entertainer he still gets goosebumps before every gig or performance.

“Every time before I walk on stage I’m nervous and for me the day I don’t get nervous is the day I’ll be worried. Because it will mean I’m either over it or I’m too big-headed or I’m not focused enough.

“I’m a perfectionist.”
