Bring the out­doors in­side by reusing wooden fence slats. With a light sand and a lick of paint they make a gor­geous table­top. It’s a great way to re­cy­cle old wood too!


Tim­ber ta­ble Sand­pa­per Cloth Un­der­coat and paint Old wooden fence slats Nails and ham­mer

You may need: saw and drill

STEP 1 Sand and pre­pare ta­ble legs and wipe off dust with damp cloth.

STEP 2 Paint ta­ble legs with un­der­coat and leave to dry. Ap­ply two coats of paint in your cho­sen colour. We painted ours black.

STEP 3 Mea­sure fence slats to fit your table­top. You may need to trim to size us­ing a saw.

STEP 4 Paint fence slats in dif­fer­ent colours to cre­ate a stripe pat­tern when put to­gether. Let dry.

STEP 5 Ar­range slats on the ta­ble to en­sure they fit cor­rectly, then nail in place. You should be able to use ex­ist­ing holes from the fence, or make sure to pre-drill holes in the slats to make it eas­ier to ham­mer nails into the ta­ble.
