So close and yet so far. They gave it their all but it wasn’t enough. The Springboks, captained by SIYA

KOLISI, lost 30-32 to the All Blacks at Loftus Versfeld.

The Boks dominated the match from the first whistle and had a 12-point lead with four minutes to go. And then disaster struck.

Some have blamed the loss on substitutions. But coach Rassie Erasmus said he had little choice but to substitute some of the players. “Look, Willie [le Roux] got concussion and Faf [de Klerk] was cramping, so it was two swops at the same time [at] decision-making positions,” he said.

“It’s a tough pill to swallow,” Bok hooker Malcolm Marx said.

“It’s hard. Having a 12-point lead with four minutes to go but unfortunately we couldn’t get the double [win]. That is part of the game and they’re not the number one team in the world for nothing.”
